A Beginner’s Guide to Strength Training
Strength training can support everyday movement, confidence and physical capacity. You do not need advanced equipment or a complicated programme to get started.
Begin with the basic movement patterns
A balanced beginner session can include a squat or sit-to-stand, a push, a pull, a hinge and a core exercise. Choose variations that allow you to move with control.
Keep the first sessions manageable
Start with a small number of exercises and leave enough energy to recover. Practise the same movements regularly before adding more volume or resistance.
Focus on consistency
Two or three sessions per week can be a useful starting point for many people. Your schedule, experience and health needs are individual, so adjust the plan when necessary.
Stop if you feel sharp pain or unusual symptoms and seek advice from a qualified professional when appropriate.
